Re: Writing Prompts

Not all fanfics need to be connected. I'd daresay most of the time they're better off standing alone.

Re: Writing Prompts

Stillstorm: "I want you to trust me!" Alex: "Well, that will take a while, considering your past actions. However with time and shared respect I'm sure we can form a relationship that will last the ages and bridge the gaps between our two peoples-" Stillstorm: "PSYCH! I was only foolin! I only want...

Re: Writing Prompts

My plan is to expand the range of plot hooks that can be used with Beryl. Because let's face it, if she isn't there to push buttons like Lieutenant Uhura or read out Wikipedia at Alex, I have a hard time writing her. That and I want to see the fur fly between at least some of these ladies. My assor...

...a lot of talk about using the block chain to automatically enforce contracts... The bits and drabs I've heard about software contracts usually revolve around the hilariously awful things that happen when you treat code as contract and someone writes imperfect code, so I'm not in too much of a hu...

Re: Page 137: Adieu SG-51

Personally, while I rarely have enough grasp on the relativity issues to explain it, I take it as a general rule that FTL will enable time travel if you try hard enough, though some schemes may make it very hard to create testable breakage. I suspect with Outsider's setup you'd need to drag stars up...

Re: Writing Prompts

A Loroi armor uniform minimally adjusted to fit Alex and in TCA colors would be an amazing thing to see. But which pattern to use as a base?

Re: Writing Prompts

I was a happier reader myself with them standing apart, connecting them seems to be borrowing trouble so to speak unless you've actually got a grand plot idea that the connection helps build up.

Re: Writing Prompts

Not sure it's really needed to spoiler-tag replies to the thing you're spoiling? idk, I'll keep it up in case there's an angle I'm missing but it seems silly to me I tend to agree with dragoongfa's angle here. They forcefully interrogated him as a suspected umiak trick, then recognized him as a dipl...

Re: 130: deep jumps vs. white dwarves

Finally: For gravity wells which are small and heavy to not follow this, generally, the gravitational constant must change as a function of something. While the system's white dwarf may appear to have a 'narrow but deep' gravity well, it is actually just a regular gravity well for its mass, but wit...

Honestly, I'll be a little surprised if Tempo isn't egging her on through the walls. After all, they might all die soon, but there might still be time to transmit final findings before the end, so it makes some sense to try to push the intel gathering faster than they would otherwise.

Re: Page 132: Something Interesting

Can a human keep their thoughts completely to themselves? Word choice, expressions, body language, eye-line, unguarded comments, all can give part of those thoughts away. The exact content might be obscure, but young children are very very bad at hiding their mood, for instance. With enough practice...

Re: Page 130: Gotta Go Fast

The idea of breaking away from the comic format at the end of chapter 2 was, if I recall correctly, proposed at a time when the update was at a low( I made a graph because that's just what I do ). Personally, I'd love to see the comic continue to be a comic if the current update rate can be maintain...

Re: When did you join the forums /start reading Outsider?

I got here sometime before 2004 because of a link from a RelicNews post. Met a lot of people back then who've been pretty important to my life since, and had a lot of discussions that've shaped my tastes since.

Re: 130: deep jumps vs. white dwarves

Umm, no. Two objects of equal mass will have the exact same gravity well, i.e. cause the same amount of space-time distortion – outside of the larger object's radius of course. The differences inside said radius don't affect the space outside (other than tidal effects and whatnot, but these don't m...

Re: New Page 128

It may just be some friendly fatalism. This culture has been involved in a very lethal brutal war for decades, it may just be the expect practice to say goodbye to someone every time they run off to fight because the odds of sudden death are very real.

Trademark reasons, strictly speaking(A distinction that matters more than you might think). Activision/Blizzard owns the name Cataclysm for video games currently.

Re: A Call to... - Page 127

Well given Beryl's xenophilia wouldn't be safe to assume her romantic interests could be based on something different? Last time this came up I was able to turn up the text of the xenophilia disadvantage as defined in GURPS. I can't find it again, but from memory it was along the lines of you have ...
