Re: Writing Prompts
Plus, if I was in Alex's place, I'd insist to be part of the boarding operation to both prove my personal loyalty and allegiance in a way the loroi understand and don't question, and to prove/disprove for myself that humans are not (or are? if so, then how, why and to what extent) the cause for all ...

Re: Writing Prompts
RE: Beacons While I kind of agree with Werra that Dustcrown, I mean Duskcrown, became a pro-human advocate a bit too quickly and too easily, I do not agree that Alex must face opposition that is so insurmountable and openly hostile toward him, Humanity or aliens in general, or has their head so high...

Re: Writing Prompts
Well, I meant their names in Trade have a different effect on us readers, of course. You are correct, it's a foreign language that we don't speak or understand without a dictionary, most of us anyway, so the context of those words is lost to us. Same as, for example, the name of the Russian city of...

Re: Writing Prompts
Leinnol and Dellasoni sound not half as martial as Fireblade and Stillstorm. Their names in general have a different effect in Trade than in English. I do wonder if that would effect viewer perception of certain figures. That is subjective to the language one uses and the context of the names in sa...

Re: Page 140 Discussion - "WRRAMMM!!!"
Were they actually leading the torpedoes to the station? I know a some had started to lock on to them, but I assume the defensive station was a more likely target than a single (presumably unarmed) shuttle. Talon pretty much did exactly that, but it's not like she had many options. She was followin...

Re: Page 140 Discussion - "WRRAMMM!!!"
I think the shock wave from the station exploding or the EMP resulting from all the nukes going off a few hundred metres behind it hit the shuttle, sent it tumbling and knocked out main power. Alex said he felt the shuttle lurching before lights went out.

Re: Writing Prompts
@Novius - Tempo's native to Perrein down to her bone marrow, not just a Perrein "citizen", so any relation would be near impossible.

Re: Page 138-139: Brace for Impact
@Krulle about collision prevention - indeed, unless they disabled it in preparation for a rough emergency landing. @Luge - They're (a) not "bubble shields" as seen in Star Trek and the like, more like "polarized hull plating" that "sticks to the hull" rather than extends above it and (b) IIRC these ...

Re: Page 138-139: Brace for Impact
Alright, Talon's maneuver is sound, albeit quite reckless, threading a needle (flying between the station's hub and ring) at, I dunno, Mach-10 or something, but given the circumstances it's the only option available to her. What is wrong in my opinion, is that she didn't tell Cerulean about it, resu...

Re: Writing Prompts
I've also thought of starting a third writing prompt. What do you guys think about one set on one of the three sister worlds, pre spaceflight. So no humans at all. Maybe Deinar iron age or Perrein cold steel and muskets. Would that be of interest? How about Perrein during or right after their World...

By the way, nice touch there, that would slip past unnoticed or be interpreted wrong by the casual reader, the Loroi having inverted views on what's masculine and feminineWerra, as Tazites Duskcrown wrote:She also thinks of you as far too feminine to be attractive.

Re: Writing Prompts
@Werra about Duskcrown (for some reason I always want to call her Dustcrown and have to force myself not to) - looks like we have a Four-Star Badass here  And about switching castes - well, switching from Listel to Soroin is a rather substantial downgrade, i.e. quitting your job as a nuclea...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I interpret that as Spiral being kind of bad with spoken language and what she was trying to say, was that "it" (the alien, Alex) was apparently severely injured, bleeding a lot and was about to drown in it's own red blood, thus she did not rate it's survival chances too high and bet against Talon.

Looking forward to it.
Dunno about other readers, but frankly, the constant "50 Shades of Blue" is getting a bit stale.

Re: [Fanfiction] A Shout in the Dark
When Cloudspeak is reporting available fuel, she's reporting as they are at that time (constant acceleration of about 2G). Since she doesn't know what the brass intends to do in terms of maneuvers, she can only give instantaneous values of consumption, rather than average ones. Alright, this ...
