Re: Page 156: Dun... dun... DUUUUUUN
While the Historians may have infiltrated the computer systems, it may be a human decision to send the Bellarmine exactly where she ended up. I am not sure how. If there was a construct aboard the Orgus vessel, it would have the ability to give the humans whatever navigational data it wanted, accur...

Re: Page 156: Dun... dun... DUUUUUUN
An infection via the Orgus indeed seems likely. With their technology level, that's not impossible, but if that were true, it raises a number of awkward questions. […] If they're able to move through Umiak space/systems with permission, why not just send humans straight to Umiak space? Five ships w...

Re: Page 156: Dun... dun... DUUUUUUN
I am still bothered by the disclosure that Pocket Historian was already resident in the Bellarmine databanks. An infection via the Orgus indeed seems likely. Historians may even have been aware about the position of the Earth ship entering the Naam system prior to its destruction, while for some rea...

Check, Sasha is short for Alexander or Alexandra.
Had a ‘wait, what?’ moment upon first hearing that.
(Edit: I imagine this could be whispered in Alex’s ear by Beryl in the Russian translation of the comic)

Re: Page 155: But hang on...
I wonder if a good antivirus program on the pad or a system restore to an earlier state could remove the active Historian program (or a ‘kill historian process’ from the command line).

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
Geeze. I wonder what caused the incident. Debris, micro meteor, something else? It’s plausible Intelsat 29e was hit by debris. I don’t think Boeing delivered a faulty product. It happened with other active GEO satellites too: AMC-9, Telkom-1, AMOS-5, Eutelsat-33B, EchoStar-3... Quoting @TSKelso on ...

Hamburg’s University Observatory provides some more context on what’s surrounding the M87 black hole and on what frequencies the various details can me detected by means of interferometry.

Re: How do you feel about page buffers?
Am one of the two that voted ‘other’. Probably a good idea to create a modest buffer in Patreon? This allows the fans to support the project and have a ‘premium’ experience by way of thank you. Might also be a good way to build a better yield per published page (although I am not that familiar with ...

Further update, the flyby was a complete success, and the highest-resolution images were received yesterday: http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/News-Center/News-Article.php?page=20190222 The data rate at which the spacecraft communicates with us is currently lower than 5kb/sec. The high-res material will have...

Re: Pages 144, 145: Conserve Energy
IMHO the franchise went off the rails early with the Teddy Bears from Endor. Later it became worse with a 11 year old semi-orphan winning a desert race in his improv flying machine against false camels wearing goggles, the senseless introduction of Jar Jar Binks, utterly unconvincing special effects...

I’d be the Righteous One From The Hedge An alternative interpretation for the given name is more colourful, referring to an underworld god from Java who “always knew everything there is to know”. This name would be called out while swearing, or in exasperation. In this view it could be ‘Spook’ From ...

Re: Pages 144, 145: Conserve Energy
The Loroi probably won’t need a blanket when Alex’ body produces 36.5–37.5 °C (97.7–99.5 °F) heat in a confined space. Keeping Alex warm/comfortable is probably a good thing though...

Re: The "Real Aerospace" Thread
I was watching the InSight Mars landing today, and they mentioned that New Horizons (the spacecraft that did the Pluto flyby) is scheduled to reach its next target (Kuiper Belt object 2014MU69 or "Ultima Thule") in January 2019. It's already almost there. Just to note that the Johns Hopkins Univers...

There may be a lack of ‘ stealth in space ’, it is also vast. Indeed hard to believe New Horizons fly through is already three and half years ago. Perhaps something more realistic like “Sink the Bismarck” (1960), not the entire film but the parts in which it destroys HMS Hood, disappears and then is found again... crippled by biplanes and then finished off by every available vessel in His Majesty’s Naval Service.
