Re: The Samantha Carter Option.... Theory Or Remotely Possible In Outsider?

The Japanese back then were something else... must have really scared the hell out the the Americans and given the stories I have read I can see why. Japan was so low on resources I read stories that they resorted to csnnibalism on csptured American forces at tines. And the island fighting was so te...

sxFx9xfUCX8 Obligatory... because it was a race against time at first to avoid destruction or losing the war... only later did it become a way to end the war without as much loss in life to their own forces as there would have been in a fullscale invasion. Point is, sometimes it's less about surviv...

Re: A Chorus of Stars

I love how to the Loroi their powers are ordinary, but to humans and especially Io they see it like we would expect... even to the annoyance of Loroi. Makes me think if superheroes were real... all but those that define themselves solely by their powers and crave attention would grow tired of people...

Re: A Chorus of Stars

Humanity here seems like they are dangerously approaching a Babylon 5 scenario where they bite off more than they can chew and get wrecked by a superior race. I het that humanity is into stealing a retroengineering alien technology, but surely they most realize the Loroi are known for genicide and n...

Excellent! I don't know where Jannesen is or if he is even still alive (I hope so), but I often feel like his work and yours could belong to the same universe, his exploring the more humorous side of things while you present the darker themes. And yet... both are realistic and true to the Outsider u...

Re: The Samantha Carter Option.... Theory Or Remotely Possible In Outsider?

If you ever watched Stargate SG1 then you know Samantha Carter is a miracle worker who blew up a star to destroy an enemy space fleet before jumping to hyperspace IF it would be possible to "blow up" a star, i guess it would be more devastating if it happened right before the fleet´s jump. What i g...

The Samantha Carter Option.... Theory Or Remotely Possible In Outsider?

If you ever watched Stargate SG1 then you know Samantha Carter is a miracle worker who blew up a star to destroy an enemy space fleet before jumping to hyperspace Is doing that even remotely possible in Outsider or not? Arioch is probably like... if it was it would been done. IRL making a star go no...

Re: Do Umiak Ever React This Way Or Is It Unusual?

"To a man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail." So you take away his hammer and... I was going to say give it to someone else... but that just repeats the cycle don't it? Because man + hammer= hammer time. And destroying the hammer is pointless because man can always build another hammer...

Re: Page 222: Take Care What You Choose For Cover

I do not know how successful it is in these types of missions, but you have to compare it to other platforms the Russians deploy, not aircraft developed in the West. Do not underestimate the russians. They are NOT inferior to us. [/quote] It is never wise to underestimate a potential foe. That said...

Re: Do Umiak Ever React This Way Or Is It Unusual?

I thought the idea was that he was kindof unfashionably self-interested as compared to his peers, which was one of the reasons why they shoved him onto the front to get murdered in the first place. That would be hillarious if so. But I doubt he is hailing Stillstorm without authorization from highe...

Re: Do Umiak Ever React This Way Or Is It Unusual?

Well, obviously I'm no expert on Umiak combat doctrine, but my sense is that each individual attack isn't expected to stand on it's own. The idea is to wear down the Loroi in a war of attrition, so sacrificing yourself is acceptable, so long as su/tdsu < su/tdsl, where su="sacrificed unit", tdsu = ...

Do Umiak Ever React This Way Or Is It Unusual?

I remember Stillstorm said how the Umiak kept coming down to the last (implying she wiped them out) but the Stray actually fled the scene. Does that mean it is rare for Umiak in battle to flee the battle? So in a scenario were a Umiak commander sees his entire fleet get ripped to shreds save his own...

Re: Page 223: Most Fortunate!

There's also the ease with which the audience can find out what characters have been depicted realistically, and which have not. I once wrote a novella featuring a Japanese female protagonist, and boy was it hard to satisfy the beta readers. One of them had lived in Japan for a number of years, and...

Now they only have to make sure the Loroi don't kill them with friendly fire.

So much fun (interesting times) ahead!

Re: Page 223: Most Fortunate!

Loroi speech is so amusing since the word choice is a bit odd and basic... which is no doubt reflects their heavy reliance on telepathy. In all my life I have never heard any human I have ever spoken with use the term "That is not even the most fortunate part" with regard to themselves or those they...

Re: "Earth should be about HERE..."

I think that the long-range detectability of our diffuse electromagnetic emissions is often overstated. A large array of radio telescopes (like the planned SKA) spaced on opposite sides of the planet for maximum resolution might be able to detect our television/radio signals at a distance of about ...

Re: Page 222: Take Care What You Choose For Cover

You can still implement it even at the stage the draft pages on your Patreon are at ;) If something can go wrong, it will go wrong and a little extra havoc is always good  I think what the Umiak actually do makes more sense both logically and narratively. The Umiak don't have any way to kn...

"Perfection is the enemy of progress." Better to ask for forgiveness for not being perfect than forever hold off action because it's not absolutely perfect. Besides... the only one... aside from actually artists who know and can see flaws, is you. The rest of the guys are just happy to ogle Beryl lol.

Re: Page 222: Take Care What You Choose For Cover

Since Loroi have all areas of any importance, I expect a massive 10 to 1 outnumbered assault on all of them by Umiak. The Loroi will run out of ammo/gun energy before the Umiak do, so the only chance Loroi have is either neutralizing or killing them all.

Re: Page 222: Take Care What You Choose For Cover

Well.. in the interests of the Umiak winning... their only real chance here, which we already know they won't take because even Arioch did not consider it, is for one their hard troopers to walk around and blast any and everything near were the ship's engine nozzles are against the walls. You do no...
