Re: This is cool and a first for humanity

Are all those wobble calculations why hyperspace jumps are risky in Outsider? Nah, it's more that the topology of hyperspace is irregular and not directly measurable. The wobble can be very precisely calculated if you know the orbits and masses of the planets. We have found lot's of exoplanets but ...

If they wanted to recreate the experiment they would first have to beat alex very close to death and bathe him in cosmic radiation before strapping him to a table. Do Loroi have an animal rights society? You know, to keep lesser beings from being gruesomely experimented on. And they will have to br...

Re: How to Make Mecha Work in a realish setting

So you want mechs that work? Build them because it is cool and use them to slug it out in an arena in essentially boxing matches. Our let them fight in the streets of an abandoned city shooting at each other with non destructive weapons. Yes I am talking about mechs as sport equipment.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Astronomers have location found systems that are a bit odd hinting that was is extremely rare normally can be more common in other systems. It could thing like a former gas giant that due to it's proximity have had it's gas layers blown of exposing the core for instance. Also, super novas, and worse...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

Alex: “No, my face is meant to look like this.” More seriously... He might be asking about the eye injury of fireblade and give away that he could sense her memories. Well, if he’s asking “Did something happen to Fireblade’s eye?” without thinking through the implications, he’s an idiot. Or this co...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I'm sure there are a variety of alternate passageways to get from deck to deck that do not require power, and that don't require zero-G acrobatics. This is not the type of starship where you can trap people on the bridge just by cutting off the power. :D Jefferies tube acrobatics on the other hand....

People may make the connection to a TV show about wierd people so yes, it will have to be graphic prints, just the logo will not work for those not already into the comic.

Having a deja vu moment - was this city modeled on Capetown, South Africa? :?: It also confirms that the loroi have cars... Not that Alex will get any of that unless someone shows him a picture of the city. Not necessarily, or exclusively. It could be mostly cargo traffic and public transport. I in...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I created a forums account just to post this. Been a lurker for years and truly enjoy the comic. Thank you for this great piece of work :D. Is it possible that when Humans sleep the "Mask" we have might fade and the Loroi can "see" his dreams. That's the impression i got from the WIP of young Jardi...

Having a deja vu moment - was this city modeled on Capetown, South Africa? :?: I zoomed in the picture and saw the headlights of cars forming lit up roads the way it does if a picture are made with long exposure time. A bit odd for a bit of memory UNLESS Tempo substitutes the city with her own memo...

Re: [Fanfiction] A Shout in the Dark

I did notice the railgun usage but got the impression that it was followed up with missiles. In any case, even the loroi use their plasma pulse cannons for point defense in addition to the dedicated systems. The Umiak traditional tactic of spamming with missiles are after all intended to force this ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Guess it could make sense... red dwarfs (dwarves?) are crazy flary during the first billions of years of existence but calm down in their mid and later years (so after about 10-12 billion years on average). A planet that has survived past the baby phase of the star (via a magnetic field), will find...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

Anyway your original idea of the futurism of robotic lawn movers and the fact that they are common today is what TV tropes call "zeerust" and it can be pretty jarring when viewing old episodes of Star Trek. It's not "zeerust" when the prediction comes true. And these are just items in the backgroun...

Humanity definitely has improved in the 22nd century. Two grassbots? ;) When I first imagined this scene as a teenager, lawnmower robots seemed more futuristic than they do today. :D But revisiting the idea today, I expect that the lawnmower robots of the 22nd century will probably not look much di...

Re: [Fanfiction] A Shout in the Dark

From the comic I get the impression that umiak vessels are relatively low on point defense systems and since the slow missiles from the space station scored three solid hits this have been confirmed. Thou it is possible that even such systems have been stripped down for weight removal. This leaves t...

That scean could exist today, including the two lawnmower bots, they are getting cheaper nowadays so having two isn't much of a stretch. The area look rural thou, so those places apperantly still exist. Let's hope that the reason for that isn't a great plague that depopulated humanity. If that have ...

Milk in Coffey are used to soften the taste and it is in this context Alex ask for milk. It is entirely possible that some loroi also prefer to soften the taste of their "coffey" but is just isn't milk. But for now the situation is hilarious and once he is handed whatever they use instead they still...
