Re: Page 192: Sleep well, girls!

The transition between page 18 and 19 seems to suggest that Alex could sense Fireblade even before the mind probe. So why her? This is my guess: Assuming Loroi were indeed uplifted from humans, the most basic lizard-brain instincts (pain, fear, ect...) may have been left unaltered because why fix w...

Re: Page 192: Sleep well, girls!

Sort of makes me wonder if fireblade was used as a sort of "hunting dog", which is why alex seeks out the two loroi in the dream despite their protests; that is, he's not actually acting, his mind is simply replaying fireblade's memory and he's filling in the blanks on autopilot, whereas she's dream...

Re: Miscellaneous Terran question-and-answer thread

the compression itself would represent an energy storage method for ships effectively a battery so even if main power is lost as long as the containment/gravity compression system is not damaged it would continue to function. Curiously enough, we know that the gravity control system on the Bennet-c...

Re: Page 191: SBIK!

Despite having beam weapons it chose to use a blade how personal a killing method. Regardless of how artificial that armour may be, isn't it the case that they naturally have spines on their arms there? Which if so, probably means using the thing is instinctive. Instinct or revenge I wonder do they...

Re: Page 191: SHIK!

Either Talon's replaced Fireblade on watch while Flint replaced Talon on pillow duty, or Fireblade is sleeping through her watch.
Unless this isn't Fireblade's nightmare.

I wonder if his body jerked when his eyes opened. When I have dreams of such nature, usually my eyes open the same time my legs jerk or sometimes my entire torso jerks/convulses much like getting an electric shock.
Ah, the old "catapult yourself into the wall" style of waking up.

Re: Page 190: K-CHUNK

Not so much propaganda as proof from survivors from Nanking and other cities overtaken by the IJA. There's well documented cases in Germany and Japan during world war two of officers either tossing them in the air for machine gun teams or slicing them in half with swords. I have found no proof of i...

Re: Page 190: K-CHUNK

I think it's not so much an issue of cost as it is of supply. And what we're seeing is not really anti-partisan fighting... that Loroi female and child are not "partisans." When you're not fighting partisans, running out of ammunition is even less of a concern. In the early days of the Final Soluti...

Re: Page 190: K-CHUNK

I'm not aware of how often anti-partisan troops ran out of ammunition, most stories from anti-partisan fighting is mainly about how continuously it stresses the soldiers who have to do it, eventual firefights are usually quickly finished, not drawn out affairs. From what I recall that has been const...

Re: Page 190: K-CHUNK

I think you guys are overestimating the cost of ammunition for a high-tech industrial society and underestimating the increased effort of manual slaughter, even for a mechanized force. Especially against populations with substantial amounts of esp'ers.

Re: Page 190: K-CHUNK

The scariest thing about Umiak is if they are willing to do that to themselves, imagine how far will they go with their enemies ....or even allies. Jardin was completely right. We are assuming that there's any will involved. Presumably no-one is signing up for it willingly, as umiak are essentially...

Re: Page 190: K-CHUNK

I don't understand why a utilitarian race like the umiak would have a seemingly cosmetic wrist-blade of all things. Is it like a terror-weapon? The whole arm being used as a sort of scythe? I suppose this is a dream of a suppression force rather than an extermination team, or they would all be gett...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Early christians weren't really opposed to pleasure, they were opposed to masturbation, which seems to be pretty common across a large number of religions and cultures, the common idea seeming to be that chronic masturbators become dull, lethargic and/or weird. Early Christianity was obsessed with ...

Societally speaking up until recently it was in society's best interests to ensure as many births as possible while also having a large number of farmhands. High infant mortality, frequent disease outbreaks, frequent wars and famines; you name it and it's a reason to ensure that as many people proc...
