Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)

I was unsure where to put this question, but do any of y’all listen to anything specific in setting the tone or scene of the story? Arioch, is there anything, be it a specific artist, composer, or even a broad genre that you use to help get in the creative mode needed when creating pages? I find my...

Who wouldn't want some skin-to-skin with sexy and curious blue skinned alien? I would be all kirk with her. Kirk probably wouldn't. Those of his relationships that aren't monogamous long term relationships with clever usually blond women are almost always invoilving him being coerced. Kirk would be...

http://well-of-souls.com/temp/bs3.png so a pre-Pulse Cannon Cruiser's Guns, Battleship Shields, CVL's fighters and twice those three ships combined point defense. At 3g the entire Human fleet might catch it but they couldn't I think outfight it unless they got lucky and came out of jump inside rail...

Re: A Call to... - Page 127

Ashrain is one of the Emperor's grandnieces who has used her family's clout to jump castes and become a frontline Torrai Torret; one would think that Stillstorm, who is a well known and vocal political thorn on the Emperor's side would seek to sideline Ashrain at every turn Ashrain chose to bring h...

Re: Page 124 and 125, interesting times afoot.

Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy, things are really getting interesting now! :o I don't think it's possible for the Umiak to reverse-engineer any Human advantage on such short notice assuming a scout got nabbed. The Humans did IIRC lose a scout in this general direction some time back. The one who's captain th...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

oh, the wastelands are so named, because the Soians removed most useful ressources witht heir ressource collecting ships. Then the Humanity is between the Loroi and the old coreland of the Soians. And then possibly the Soians are hiding inside Dyson Spheres, which make the wastelands look even more...

Actually it proved that despite large sums of money they managed to produce a pistol whose effective range was only marginally above its minimum range. And which no one has thought...

Re: Miscellaneous Umiak/misc. races question-and-answer thre

Plus, recoilless weapons can not be used in confined spaces, for the same reasons as the jet weapons. Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm came up with a solution for that with the Armbrust . While scaling it down is an issue it wouldn't be impossible. Just unlikely to be sufficiently easy to be worth while.

Re: Page: 118

The area in which humanity is located is called the 'Great Wastelands' because almost all of the systems there don't have any mineral riches or planets worthy of colonization. I thought it was more a low stellar density region, so unsurveyed by the modern spacefaring races because of a paucity of p...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

You haven't factored the Loroi's force field generators into your calculations. That's something the Bellarmine doesn't have. Not noticably something that is considered usable crew space and thus doesn't affect the conclusion. Unless you are suggesting the Loroi use them to extend atmosphere over t...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Tempest is 750m long with a crew of 800. Bellarmine is 190m long with a crew of 80. That measn even if Tempest didn't have a significantly wider profile than Bellarmine it would be over 60 times the volume and therefore likely mass. Based on their comparitive shapes Tempest looks to be closer to 90...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

Loroi ships could be so nicely designed because they are likely the last home their Loroi crew will ever know. I know that Human military planers would do so too, if they could afford it. For morale reasons. But also Human planners keep in their head that the ship in a war will likely mean that it ...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

I don't have precise estimates for the power requirements of ships; they would be somewhere in the terajoule order of magnitude. The power draw on the Tempest's weapons (especially the pulse cannons) would be much larger than a Rapier's medium blasters, as would the draw of the accumulators that fe...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread

The problem is that the main engines are not suitable for atmospheric use; it would be kind of like using atomic rockets on Earth, a hazard both to the planet and the spacecraft. So, a vessel needs to have alternate or secondary atmosphere-safe engines (as shuttles do) to be able to operate in and ...

Re: Fan Theories on How the Umiak can hide from the farseers

I really don't see how the Umiak or the Loroi could have ever encountered a human besides Alex and the crew of the Bellarmine in the timeframe that would allow the Umiak to exploit it in the battles at Naam which the Bellarmine witnessed part of. I suppose it is possible that the Umiak may have enc...
