Re: page 82

If it was a gravity driven rail gun I would be tempted to go the Mass effect2 way and use a material in the liquid state as a projectile. And accelerate a short stream of it. Probably would not hold together long but if you managed a system that could get the low mass your firing out of it to about ...

Re: page 82

With an energy weapon hit it would probably be a bit more of great blinding light at eh end of the hallway any non oblique surface either combusting or melting while glowing furiously and the atmosphere turning rapidly into plasma. A missile hit may do the wall of fire its possible i would think, bu...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

I've always been a big fan of the sphere shape for space crafts. So far very few others have gone this way but perry Rhodan has a few. I mostly like the design based on the concept of less turrets more power and cooling per few turrets excellent field of fire. Two turrets is all you need to give com...

Re: Imagining realistic energy weapons

A realistic use of a man portable in atmosphere laser would probably not be in the damage dealing section of the weapon. at least not directly. I remember hearing about experiments using a laser to ionize the air between a weapon and a target in order to give an electrical discharge a conductive pat...

Re: Imagining realistic energy weapons

Another reason laser based weapons will have a large aperture and beam size is you have to keep the laser on target for enough of a duration to deal damage to the target. Small beams mean the object you are hitting needs to be still or tracked to an extraordinary degree. To burn through a missile ca...
