Re: Hyperspace

And given that large stars accumulate cores composed largely of iron, it's clearly not something that's going to make a star explode. where did you get this fact? as I understand it no sun has a core composed of iron at least for more then short period before it goes super nova (reads hours to days...

Re: Page 87

it's true humans in this story advance at amazing speed and now that we know what has been done they will likely be at a equal tech level even quicker. (something like 25-50 is even likely) this is why no one is saying humans couldn't help in the war, some people like me are trying saying the war wi...

Re: Hyperspace

this was a good laugh! lol whiff doink liberate What happens in these cases? whiff/ doink you get back in but in the wrong system? or you * might* very unlikely end up in the wrong system but probably end up forever in hyperspace a la liberate. -O both are equaly possible but both will also end up w...

Re: Page 87

As for me, I'm cautiously optimistic that humans will eventually make a difference... eventually. Perhaps not in the early or even the middling stages of the story, but towards the end we might just get our big damn heroes moment. we already have our human hero and his name is Alex the main charact...

Re: Page 87

A volume of space 200 light years across contains a lot of star systems to explore. Hm. Comes to my mind right now: We fired a lot of nukes ~220 years before todays storyline? I mean, radio transmissions and seti stuff aside, wouldn´t a nuclear explosion have been registered 20 years ago? every nuc...

Re: Page 87

That or the Historians had a hand in the downfall of the Soia Empire and the Terrans are the last remnants of the Soia. that would give the motive for the Historians to destroy the bellarmine. and as for the Pol perhaps they are hostages. the Soia fell 500,000 years ago and the story doesn't change...

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs

If you jump on a vector pointed at a star from inside that star's gravity well, the exit point from hyperspace is going to be very close to the star's center of mass. Most likely inside the star itself. Then would you have to be as far back, as say, the kuiper belt to make this kamikaze gambit poss...

Re: Page 87

The most humanity can do militarily is make themselves puff up like a blowfish and appear stronger than they actually are. Mankind might be able to make some prototypes field ready, but those advancements most likely won't make much difference in actual combat. thats the way I see it too which is k...

Re: Page 87

Come on guys we're just getting to the end of the FRIST chapter, we haven't even met the entire cast yet so there’s on reason for us to have met the real villain of the story. So in the hunt for a villain you're making the Historians out to be more evil then the story or insider makes them out to be...

Re: Page 87

And there does seem to be some confusion as to who actually started the shooting in the first place. Perhaps the hypothesised third party involved in the destruction of the Bell has been around much longer than originally thought... this is what I find most interesting about this idea, what if both...

Re: Page 87

the problem with the idea of them lying is it seems more like a human issue then either one of these two species would have. 1) The loroi just don't lie, telepathy makes this almost a alien concept to them. 2) form what little we know about the bugs a selfish act like lying doesn't seem to fit there...

Re: Page 87

. So, assuming the Umiak are being up-front here, they didn't blow up the Bellarmine, and this group, at least, has never encountered human spaceships before. It's almost unfortunate the Historian envoy wasn't around for this conversation; it's reaction might have been informative. well maybe not i...

Re: Page 87

well the Bugs seem to be completely in the dark. the didn't even know what the Loroi were looking at until the last group got a look at it. though I love the fact they think it was the loroi that blow it up which just shows how out of the loop they are. but I have to say I respect them for at least ...

Re: Page 86

this thing some of you guys have with the bugs caring about loroi meeting humans or even knowing about humans makes no sense to me at all. nothing in the story has even hinted at this possibility or even a reason why. sure we know humans are invisible to loroi far seers but there should be no way fo...

Re: Page 84

1) "heat" only matters if there is matter to conduct it. Radiation is likely to be the cause of death for the Loroi on the ship, not shrapnel or some sort of pressure wave. The ship itself would conduct the heat and the ship is full of air so pressure waves would also happen. The blast it self woul...

Re: Page 84

There's not yet any indication that the ship's entire stores of fuel were involved, the one white-out panel we saw was of a sphere centered around the engine section. And the command area survived at least long enough to transmit video of them reacting. It may have been just what was in the reactor...

Re: Page 84

@ icekatze and Voitan there are no survivors because Heck there isn’t a winter tide anymore for that matter. Loroi ships carry a lot more anti-matter then two or three of the largest torpedoes combined ( more likely closer to a 100 times that or more.) all that exploded inside the ship where armor w...

Re: page 83

This is something I might expect from lower-ranking personnel. Things are less formal in the lower ranks. Captains have a certain profesional level of conduct they should mantain. It just seems...wrong. that's to be expected from a human point of view. but to act with a " profesional level of condu...

Re: page 83

Great paper and I agree seeing the loroi making a bet was strange at first but if you think about how the loroi are it males sense. it my be frowned on for a high ranking human officer to do this you know t goes on behind closed doors. But the loroi don't hide things so I can see them doing it out i...

Re: page 82

[quote="discord"]dex: actually, the bow vs modern guns is a good approximation, on land a bow could actually still be a pretty viable weapon....people do hunt and kill deer, and some might go for elk, with just bow and arrow....so killing a human with one is not all that difficult, being silent, it ...
