Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
Now I'm excited! Maybe the debris field is what blocks the Loroi's vision? But amplifiers enhance vision, not block it... Perhaps they will also meet the transcendent one in person. Who says it's a person ? Actually, is that even wise? What or whoever it might be is not guaranteed to be benevolent,...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
Since you are intentionally hiding the last part... lemme guess... Emberwing is some kind of uber living weapon that makes Fireblade look like a child's play thing and will single mindedly win the war rigbt? It is not as if you have not been dropping hints... I said right at the beginning, that the...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Rellet Reimolad Roror (A sword that wields itself) Story Thread
Chapter XXXXIII: As history repeats itself She wasn’t fond of metaphors, just as most Loroi were, thought Emberwing while getting out of bed. However, this particular one was known to any warrior. The immortal minnir, which would be always reborn anew, just as the Empire prided itself as the rebirt...

Re: Wind and Fire
Greywind may be Emperor, but that does not make her omnipotent or all powerful. Sending out orders over long distances in this setting takes time and logistics. Endurance is a farseer with a mastery of the lotai. With a ship at her disposal. Maybe more. How do you hunt what you can't see? It took t...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
I do not think it is insignificant at all. It shows character. As an example, I would have been more cautious were I in Alex place. I would not have joked that Fireblafe did not know how to speak trade just to get a reaction from Fireblade, nor would I have flipped off the person whi used superpowe...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Since the psionic powers of the Loroi are said to be a product of their mind, rather than directly a product of their biology, their genetic code is likely a red herring. All Loroi can be assumed to have the correct genes for it, since they all have the genes to develop a Loroi brain, which develop...

Re: Wind and Fire
So Lagertha used her own son as what, a bond of sorts? An advance payment? Security deposit? I think that keeping her alive is way too lenient.
And Greywind won't mobilize more forces to catch that psionic WMD of a ganger?

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
What is interesying about Alex? I will grant you that he is not super interesting, but he does definitely hold that everyman what would you do appeal to him. Additional he has displayed some attitude that characterizes him... namely his bold mocking of Fireblade he threw him against the wall earlie...

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
The problem is not the ability to maintain the acceleration, it is the price of doing so. Normal space engines produce way too much heat and radiation. They would burn the troops, as well as the atmosphere. Smaller specialized ships or shuttles have extra atmospheric engines, but installing them int...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
The only detective story where I have bothered to read the actual book was Sherlock Holmes. Often Holmes knows things no one else does until he explains it later... I quite enjoyed Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes... he was rather eccentric but highly intelligent and would have been more of a M...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
I think it is better for characters to know more than the reader... but no turning back now in the story. That way the reader wants to know what they know... and it can surprise the reader. No reader cares about any character unless they act interesting or do interesting things.... preferably both....

Re: Page 218: The Volunteer
Turned out there were a lot of bugs, which made it easy for the systems to be hacked. Yes, it seems that opening Windows on a spaceship was a really bad idea. Who would've thought? They should've installed Linux instead. Those ships are made by the bug version of the Soviet Union, which probably me...

Re: Page 218: The Volunteer
It's been a while, and I can't recall if it's ever been addressed before, do the smurfs have a belief in the afterlife? I know they have legends, those that are oddly familiar with Earth's. Not really, the legends do form some sort of ancestor veneration, but not at the level of what we know as a r...

Re: Page 218: The Volunteer
Any ship (and especially an Umiak one) will have redundant systems and compartmentalization, which is why it requires a series of coordinated failures and not just a simple blowout. Nobody said being a blue magical space elf babe was easy, but it helps when you have Tempo's particular set of skills...

Re: Page 218: The Volunteer
No one said it was easy. Are you saying it has to have be easy, or a girl couldn't have done it? Well, maybe it's only difficult for a pink alien man-thing, but not really a problem for a blue magical space elf babe. I had the same thoughts more or less, and I agree that just not generating oxygen,...

Re: Page 218: The Volunteer
If they take out the life support, even if there are dudes in powered armor still wandering around then they still well and truly fucked over the ship. What did they take out, though? 1. Oxygen generation; it will still leave the bugs a few hours until it is depleted. 2. CO2 absorption; same as abo...

Re: Page 218: The Volunteer
Volunteered? Cloud was the only disposable one. The others are simply more valuable. Besides, it's war, and they are in the middle of enemy territory. There was no room nor time to question orders. But are the life support systems really so easy to sabotage? There should be multiple redundancies, an...

Re: [Fan Fiction] Notes and discussion for "A sword that wields itself"
The last chapter you have written is arguably the most reader friendly and immersive you have written in a while. My mind was fully engaged... it had to be since you engaged one of my senses, sight. Well, I am trying to experiment with different storytelling styles. Good to know that this one was w...

Intermission U: For whom the bell tolls The young warrior was crouching on the roof of a building close to the city wall, well-hidden by night and lotai. She spread out her senses, both mundane and psionic, confirming that there was nobody patrolling this section of the battlements right now. With ...

Re: Expedition
Hmm. What tech level would you say that we (real Humanity anno 2022) have and, more importantly, how do you know? By the simple rule of elimination, we have the highest tech level out of all the known civilizations. :P Well, maybe except for the ones which built the vimanas . :ugeek: I can imagine ...
