Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Does the map of the Steppes region show systems that have no planets, or no planets that can be easily colonized?
Also, do the Loroi have flag bridges, or a secondary bridge? Or is it just that the command deck is large enough for everybody to fit in?

I think that goes without saying. I expect that the problems of dark matter and dark energy will be figured out by then, but I don't think the answers to either of those large-scale questions will greatly affect the relatively small-scale space travel in Outsider. As for neighboring galaxies, the major combatants are not much closer to "touching" them than we are now.Beliskner wrote:I wonder how much umiak and loroi know about our and neighborhood galaxies. Considering our progress nowdays can we assume that humans in 2156 have formidable knowledge about galaxy(star systems patterns, laws and phenomenons) ?
The Steppes map in the Insider is just a translated version of the Loroi map on page 59, which presumably is specific to Loroi planning and operations. It show important systems, but it's not a comprehensive atlas of stars in the region.Beliskner wrote:Does the map of the Steppes region show systems that have no planets, or no planets that can be easily colonized?
Most command ships have flag facilities, but many group-level or squadron-level flag officers are also formally the captains of their ships, and so the command is not separated. If the Tempest had a separate flag staff on board, they would use the balcony offices at the rear of the bridge (19 & 20 here).Beliskner wrote:Also, do the Loroi have flag bridges, or a secondary bridge? Sector or Fleet flagships will have a separate flag staff and a separate flag bridge.

Have either of the main sides of this war tried sending in probes through enemy territory, and what is the likelihood of success?
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Jump drive requires significant power (the powerplant of a ~75m class ship), so an instellar 'probe' is better known as a scout; it's an expensive piece of hardware that most likely requires a crew. Jump drive only works between adjacent systems, so there's no easy way to bypass the enemy's front lines to get to their interior territory; the enemy would devote significant effort to destroying the scout before it penetrated the interior. That's because if you could get scouts into the enemy interior, you could do a lot worse than explore: you could just bomb their planets into oblivion and the war would be over.saint of m wrote:Have either of the main sides of this war tried sending in probes through enemy territory, and what is the likelihood of success?
Compounding the problem even further is that since there's no FTL radio, the scout not only has to get past the enemy's front line once to get into enemy territory; it has to do it a second time to return home to report what it found.

So the first part of this is: Neither side is that desperate to try it.Arioch wrote:Jump drive requires significant power (the powerplant of a ~75m class ship), so an instellar 'probe' is better known as a scout; it's an expensive piece of hardware that most likely requires a crew. As for the second, could it not send a smaller capsal through jump space at a predetermined location with the necessary info, or would power would be an issue again?

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Said capsule would still need to be an entire jump-capable ship in it's own right as I understand the FTL physics. Leaving you with the same problem. It would also still need to get back through hostile space that is alerted by the scout going through.

So.. looking at Chapter 2 again, and I have to ask. They've kept humaniti's top (ok, only) diplomat in an unfurnished cell for over a week? Are there really no spare acommodations, or at least a cot they could throw in?

Well he may be a diplomat, but he's on a warship in a warzone, sparse accommodations and restricted movements are reasonable, though THAT sparse is likely an intentional slight. It's likely that there's no available rooms that can be locked from the outside.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Who needs locks when there are Teidars onboard capable of keeping the door closed at will?fredgiblet wrote:Well he may be a diplomat, but he's on a warship in a warzone, sparse accommodations and restricted movements are reasonable, though THAT sparse is likely an intentional slight. 't Would of course be a waste of resources.

I'll get into it more in the next few pages, but Alex was put in the brig and was denied visitors who clearly (if Beryl is to be believed) wanted to see him. This was not an oversight.cacambo43 wrote:So.. looking at Chapter 2 again, and I have to ask. They've kept humaniti's top (ok, only) diplomat in an unfurnished cell for over a week? Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
so why exactly are the loroi so xenophobic any way they're like us but on crack in that departent. side question do the loroi even have illegal drugs in their society.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
The Loroi have a closed, militaristic society, which is heavily dependent on telepathy. Outsiders are problematic for such a society.wasp609 wrote:so why exactly are the loroi so xenophobic any way they're like us but on crack in that departent. side question do the loroi even have illegal drugs in their society.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
and what about the illegal drugs im just a little curious here.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Most intoxicating drugs are illegal in Loroi society, because when telepathic and telekinetic individuals become intoxicated, they are a danger to themselves and others. Instead, Loroi use sedatives which quiet them down or knock them out.wasp609 wrote:and what about the illegal drugs im just a little curious here.
In any society, there are individuals who will break the law. However, since the Loroi are governed by a military dictatorship, and since the warriors who administrate the system are prohibited by law from engaging in commerce (and so bribes are of limited value), being an illegal drug trafficker or drug user would be a very dangerous lifestyle choice. In most cases, a convicted drug dealer or a warrior caught intoxicated while on duty would be put to death.

If one loroi (Beryl for example) sleep and see a dream, does can another (Fireblade, for example, or anybody from her caste) see what in dreams of first? And how loroi control emotions in a dream? (If Firablade see nightmare she can make many troubles in moment of awake )

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
If you check Fireblade's character sheet you'll see that she has "'talk's' in her sleep" as a quirk. I assume that controlling your telepathy while sleeping is something that kids learn early on, but there will always be people who can't quite manage it. I imagine sedatives are probably popular among those who can't control their dreams to prevent broadcasting them to the whole ship/barracks/town.
