I now have an avatar. A non-pretentious avatar. Behold and be awed.

Perhaps that should have been in all-caps.

Hi everyone!
Hope you don´t mind me using this old thread.
I´m new to this forum, but I found Outsider quite some time ago.
Can´t even remember when and how I got here.

Hi, don't worry no one minds :) nice to have you on the boards! Have you heard about the infamous misspelling of telepathy that lead to a picture? :D

I guess I introduced myself in the old forum. I don't post much, but I check the comic every day. Compulsive, been following Outsider forever.

My memory's shot, so I don't recall if I ever formally introduced myself, and I'm too lazy to check, and it's probably too late for an introduction from me, but I'm bored and posting this.

Good evening. I discovered Outsider through a thread on /tg/. Fortunately, not one of the beard threads. I think it was an HFY thread, if my memory serves. Right now, I haphazardly write fanfiction and vegetate. Also recovering from wisdom tooth removal.

Fun fact: my post count here is larger than my post count on alternatehistory.com. Yup.

An annoying cliche hello thread

Hey everyone!

As much as it annoys me to write one of these it's probably easier that diving straight into a discussion. I've been one of those lurkers who visits every now and then pretty much since 2004 when I first discovered the comic through Homeworld shipyards, when we were only up to panel 34! I have loyally followed on for all these years and well I feel it's probably time to step into the light. I've almost been coaxed out a few times, but hey you've finally got me! I'm a student Mechanical Engineer at UCL, so I probably won't be around all that much on the forums, but if you're curious I can help with any queries with my limited Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and whole load of other technical knowledge goodyness. I also sketch and paint watercolour, as I used to study both Ceramics and fine art and as such like to think I "know" a little bit about it....

And yes I'm English/British, and yes I do play cricket and drink tea.....

But finally hats off to the comic, it is in my opinion one of the best around. The depth and back-story is clearly a labour of love and it shows it in crisp execution and I eagerly (& patiently) await the next instalment.

Test, ODI, or T20?

And do you think America will ever be a Test nation?

CJ Miller wrote: Test, ODI, or T20?

Always at heart I'm a test man, nothing better. As to ODI and T20, I play both at University level so personally I enjoy both forms of the game. What to watch between those two? I tend to find the 50 over game easier to call the result, as well as with the 40 over at county level. So as such they can be a bit boring at times, but it still delivers exciting games from time to time, like watching Hampshire take the Double this summer! T20 often delivers really good games, but as with all levels it can be a total washout sometimes.

Can the USA become a test nation? Good question, it could if it wanted to (but that's true of most things). I think if it does it's route will be very similar to how they started getting into Football, ie through the women's game. America is very competitive in women's football with two world cups from 1991 & 1999, and as one of my Brothers used to captain Dartmouth's "soccer" firsts I know that women's football is very popular sport for girls mainly due to the equal sports act you guys had a fair few years back when colleges had to put a large amount of money into women's sport. At Dartmouth rugby was also apparently quite popular (especially in the School of Business) and I've heard it's a bit of New England thing with the county police and fire departments having teams. Finally you guys didn't do yourselves down in the rugby world cup either. So I think the future is bright as I think cricket might start to get traction through the women's game, or possibly maybe through Indian, or Caribbean expats.

I thought that might raise the odd smile!

The USA isn't going to start playing cricket, at least, not on a meaningful scale. We've got baseball and softball. Though schools tend to do men's baseball and women's softball.
