For once, the demons of the digital world saw fit to censor an opinion that was truly despicable

I was disappointed in Rogue One, but I don't think it's a bad movie. It may be the best of the Disney Star Wars offerings.

As with Force Awakens (and Phantom Menace, for that matter), the trailers for Rogue One led me to expect that the movie would be better than it was. They should take whoever puts these trailers together and let him or her direct the actual movies.

It didn't help that almost half of the shots in the Rogue One trailers weren't even in the released movie. We'll probably never know whether Disney's reshoots made the movie better or worse, but they definitely left noticeable marks on the film and probably contributed to the disjointed, confused plot.

I wonder if in a few years after Disney drops the franchise, somebody will try to make a movie from Legends sources. Maybe one about Mara Jade.

Or maybe SW is beyond recovery at this point.

Personally, I'm done with it so long as Disney owns it.

I have a habit of saving some of my annual leave days for christmas to New Year off with my relatives and was dragged of to see this movie with them. It was... When I first heard of the "Death Star" guns on ordinary star destroyers I believed it to be a bad joke. I was wrong, they are there. I understand that the expanded universe produced some massive vessel many times larger then a super star destroyer specifically to carry a single of those guns that join their streams on a death star. It could do, as I understand what they do in Rouge One when limiting the use of the Death Stars destructive power while fireing only one of thease. The rest of the plot is just as lame and to give a major role to a dead actor is just wierd as well.

Yeah, that was a very strange decision. Didn't she even die in the timespan between finishing shooting TLJ and publishing of the movie? Had Leia died in TLJ, that movie would have been better. Instead both movies had to deal with her miraculously surviving.

If some of the rumors that came out are true, it sounds like Kathleen Kennedy ruined Star Wars more than any director.
Rumors are:
She backstabbed Spielberg and got his proposed ideas for 7 - 9 thrown out.
Forced a feminist angle on the movies.
Didn't plan out the trilogy ahead of time.
Picked the wrong directors.
Greenlit atrocious scripts. Sometimes insisted on making them worse.

Yeah, that was a missed opportunity... but Last Jedi was a solid 153 minutes of missed opportunities...

Wow.

Why can't Disney just hire these people?

The opening moments of the battle of coruscant is kind of ridiculous, though.
Was palpatine shrouding all the jedi and all the radars on coruscant to such an extent that an enemy fleet could get into the system and into the actual atmosphere before anyone spotted them?
Also, check the 2 first poses that Windu and Yoda makes. They make a declaration while their legs are spread in a wide stance and with an arm thrown out in front of them.
Seems kinda hammy, at least for yoda.

Yoda is really old, okay? You can't blame him for sleeping in on D-Day.

The action is good, but the story makes no sense.

From the video description:
Q: How did the CIS fleet sneak in undetected?
A: Darth Sidious gave the CIS the location of a secret hyperspace lane through the galactic core unknown to The Republic. This allowed the CIS fleet to enter orbit directly from hyperspace, destroying hundreds of Venator Class star destroyers before they were able to raise shields & jamming all communications to prevent reinforcement (which Republic forces eventually overcame).

That's actually a good explanation that would make sense if it was explained in-series, which I believe it was? It's been so long since I watched this series that I can't quite remember.

That...still makes no sense. How do millions of cartographers miss a hyperspace lane that leads directly into orbit of the capital planet of the galaxy?
How can Yoda clap together drop ships, but needs help pushing off a few dozen droids?
Why is he riding a "horse" instead of taking a hovercar like a normal person?
Why does Windu have to kenshiro several droids instead of just using his lightsaber?

If you're expecting logic or internal consistency, this isn't the franchise you're looking for.

I cringe every time I hear Clone Wars or Rebels held up as something notably good. It all has the same "this feels like it was written for little kids" feel. (Not in terms of subject matter, but in terms of... quality.)

The first Clone Wars cartoon came out between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. This battle came out as a lead up to Revenge of the Sith coming out. (This cartoon did a lot of over the top things since it was in the spirit of Samurai Jack)

For the hyperspace route, it was one that went through the center of the Galaxy (near the black hole(s) in that region), known as the Deep Core. It is still only lightly explored even if the "Core Worlds" surround it. Mostly because all the gravity from the black hole and tightly packed stars in the core of the galaxy makes hyperspace travel dangerous. During the Clone Wars a route was discovered through the Deep Core that could get from one side of the Core Worlds to the other, but the data was encrypted, with the Republic Military having one half and the Jedi the other half. Neither knew the route because they didn't trust each other with the information (and it didn't benefit the Republic to know it since it didn't lead to any Separatist Worlds). However, there is one person would could get both halves privately without setting off any alarms with either side....the Chancellor of the Republic....Palpatine. Count Dooku was given the information and told to wait until called for to use it against the Republic.

Palpatine didn't have Dooku use the route until the Jedi started to get a little too close to finding out who Darth Sidious was. It was used as a distraction to throw the Jedi off his trail, while also instilling fear into the Core Worlds that they could be next (building support for Palpatine's New Order, since the Jedi didn't seem able to stop this from happening). He spent a good three years turning the population of the Republic against the Jedi by basically making them the scapegoats for the war. It was only in the years that followed the war that the evils of the Empire started to become visible (and to some worlds it took until the end of the Civil War to see those evils).

I finally broke down and saw Rise of Skywalker yesterday. I bought a ticket for Frozen then switched seats. I should feel bad about that but I figured it was the same ticket price (Matinee) and the theater actually gets to keep more money from the Frozen ticket because it's been out longer.

The movie was everything I expected it to be from the spoilers I had seen. The frantic pace in order to cover plot holes big enough to drive a Star Destroyer through (that was probably "conjured" by the Emperor). Plot points created then forgotten/ignored. The bad guys defeated once again by a single point of failure exploited by the heroes.

The only thing that could have saved it was having the final shot of Rey have the emperor's yellow eyes, then she starts laughing.

I enjoyed Darth Maul in both, however.
