Most of the Loroi subcultures didn't believe in an afterlife, so they wouldn't have anything that performed the role transporting souls to Valhalla.

Some of the Loroi heroic myths include avenging spirits, sort of a cross between Greek Furies and Sirens. I don't recall whether Valkyries also had that role.

I realky doubt they did much if any avenging.

They were to escort fallen warriors to Valhalla.

Vikings... if I read correct sources online... believed beautuful norse women would pick up the dead warriors and take them to vahalla. They were dressed in battke gear as they were were thought to choose who lived and died in viking battles... so kinda avenging maybe?

The valkries only choose those who were brave enough to fight well though.

So death in battle or winning in a battle was a win-win to any viking that believed that.


Kinda reminds of the terrorists after 9/11 who believed iff they died a bomber they would get 72 virgins in heaven.


Viking myth is not unlike that... since you cannot tell me a bunch of beautiful warrior ladies and a bunch of warrior guys in valhalla are going are not going to... what one would expect.

The Valkyries in Norse myth were both 'saintly' and 'devilish' as we would describe them.

They served Odin and their main task was to roam the battlefields and with the aid of ravens select those fallen warriors worthy enough to enter Valhalla where they would be part of Odin's host which would fight at the end times of Ragnarok. While waiting these warriors would split their time between training and feasting at Odin's own hall.

The Legends go that they picked warriors depending on their valor in battle and nobility in their character; with liars and turncoats being recipients of their eternal ire, forever to be tortured and their flesh being made into musical instruments.

Valkyries started out as general spirits and not as hot women. Their role was also a lot more sinister than the later impression formed under Christian influence. A spirit that hangs around battlefields and snatches up the souls of the dead isn't usually looked upon with benevolence.

You aren't wrong of course. But as the Norse and Germanic people left very little of their own writing, our impression of them was formed almost solely from Christian sources or by authors heavily influenced by Christianity. Much of what we know is not nearly as old as we believe it to be.

Doesn't preservation of psychic signatures in Listel memory play kinda the same role, with "ghosts"/impressions of heroic warriors being passed through centuries to inspire and impart wisdom on the further generations?

There are similarities in theme, in that remembrance/reverence of the dead plays a similar role in society, and the special attention to the deeds of the most heroic among the deceased has an analogue in the selection of heroes by the Valkyries, but I think there's a clear distinction between that and a literal belief that the souls of the dead reside in some kind of heavenly realm.
