I wish the glowing eyes during psionic exertion were diegetic (at least ISTR Arioch saying they aren't).

Thanks for the new page!
Re: Blender - the learning curve is something I have heard more than a few complaints about.
I have also heard that Bforartists is a Blender fork and can do the same stuff but is expressly made to be easier to learn/use.

You know I honestly only just now realized some of the stations on the umiak bridge are upside down, actually kindof cool though
Also, at long last over the 3d modeling hump, I for one am somewhat excited

Indeed.
Also: this is a reminder, that with artificial gravity generators, the consoles/stations do not need to be placed all on the same side of the same plane.
I'm looking forward to that athletic pilot (Talon) jumping "up" and "up" and doing somersaults when mid air so the legs always point down; just to show how to elegantly move from the one plane of the bridge to the other.

Are those 3d backgrounds? They still look handpainted.

It's a rough 3D background overpainted by hand. Unfortunately I still have a ways to go until I have a complete 3D set, but these paintings will help in the creation of that, in addition to moving the comic along.
It might be an interesting experiment to use the handpainted textures in the 3D model, Arcane style. Probably won't work, but I'm curious.

Thanks, I'll check it out.
At first glance it looks like it's mainly a UI mod that changes the menus and hotkeys, but I don't think it changes the weird way Blender does things. It's still a very complex program... which is a good thing, just challenging to learn... a lot of memorization of hotkeys and menus, and none of it very intuitive even for something who has used other 3D software and is (or used to be) good at learning new software. It's already hard to get a correct answer on how to do something (because the Blender version changes frequently, and so the answer is frequently wrong) -- I suspect that using a mod will only make this worse.
My problem is that I'm not consistently spending enough time with it. I follow a tutorial, and get into it, then something absurd makes me put it down, and a week later when I pick it up again I've forgotten half of what I learned. My attention span isn't what it used to be.

I'll leave it up to the reader to decide whether their eyes are really glowing.

Tempo's such a nice person that she's letting the Umiak sit on a nice ergonomic office chair while she stands.

She's not, actually.
She at least half-sits on some kind of rise next to the 'reading station'.
Good to see a new page, and an interesting one to boot with a view of Umiak ergonomics and ship-architecture.
Have you considered letting all sides (walls, floor, ceiling) of the control center be used for crew stations, Arioch?

There are stations on the floor and ceiling and against the walls, but not exactly on the walls. It's not super tall.

So, if I understand correctly, its only the helm (pilot) station on the ceiling.
Also, the "ladder" marker on the bottom-left diagram makes me wonder how an Umiak ladder looks like.

There's more than one, but it's not just a mirror of the floor. I'll show you when it's in a better state; right now that part of the geometry is just a hole.

Just out of curiosity: Have you tried using a Game Engine like Godot, Unity or Unreal Engine for your modelling?
Since their aim is it to make it easy for a wide range of developers to use them (be they programmers, artists, designes or mappers alike), they are substantially easier to use. Just ask all those Machinima people, that since the early 2000s use games, level editors and engines to create videos. See the likes of Red vs. Blue & co.
Most of those engines even use compatible cross-compatible formats for their assets -- like 3DS models and FBX/GLB meshes.
I am personally partial to Godot, since it's completely free-as-in-freedom.
But I know that Unity's and UE's asset stores are hard to beat for ultra-quick turnaround on prototypes.

No, I need a modeling tool, not a real-time game engine. It hadn't occurred to me that those engines would have their own modeling tools, but I assume they are limited. But since I suppose they're used to create level art I should probably investigate just to see how they're used.
Just because it's hard to learn doesn't mean Blender isn't the right tool. There are things I would like to do with it other than just creating backgrounds for the comic.

Blender is kicking my ass too. The problem is the workflows are designed around generalized features but they are not well integrated and nor is there great documentation that connects the pieces. Most of the official docs read more like a dictionary rather than a manual.
It is fun though. I spent the last 3 weeks designing a python script to automate the generation of curvenets for rigging clothes that I don't want fully physics simulated. Slowly building an arsenal of tools and documentation for every step of the process.

Page 233, frames 2 and 3.
Tempo appears to read over the 'shoulder' of our 'Dave' Umiak here.
I wonder if she's capable of reading "ikkukhak", or drags the info out of 'Dave's' brain.

I'm going to interpret it as the eyes not actually glowing in a way that can be measured with instruments or observed by personality constructs, but that there's some effect of using Loroi psi powers that creates an impression on nearby minds, which is so often interpreted by Loroi (and Humans, apparently) as glowing eyes, that even Loroi visual media depicts it this way.

Yep. That's what kiboshed my attempts so far as well (I've attempted to learn it in order to create some game mods).
