Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
I feel as though we're missing a big part of what's going on in the story as the telepathic speech of the Loroi goes noticed, there might be secondary conversations and orders going on in the background we as the audience aren't privy too. I hope this changes later on.

hi hi
Judging by the looks on their faces, the Umiak just revealed something that is making everyone uncomfortable. Perhaps the Umiak are saying they will exchange prisoners for the wreckage? The Umiak did occupy a number of Loroi colonies early on in the war, when they were still treating it as a war of conquest and not a war of annihilation.

Alex might also be asking confirmation about something, from the look on his face.

I kind of think the Umiak attempting this kind of communication is uncomfortable enough to justify their expressions, at this juncture.icekatze wrote:Judging by the looks on their faces, the Umiak just revealed something that is making everyone uncomfortable. For want of a sandwich, mustard was sought.
For want of mustard, a ship was shot.
For want of a ship a war was fought.
And all for the want of a sandwich.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Only problem being, that those colonies were occupied years ago. And a raiding task force is extremely unlikely to have any on hand. Offering the possible release of prisoners in the future isn't much motive to the Loroi who have to hand over the Bell right away.icekatze wrote:hi hi

It's probably something else....another surviving member of the Bell's crew perhaps? This would actually be rather clever, since the Loroi response might tell the Umiak what their interests are, and if they already have a living member of the Bell's crew.

Well, if Loroi captives are part of their far-sensor blocking technology, they might have some along. Or they could just play an old clip and use it as a ruse to dock with the Tempest and then they spring their sneak attack boarding party.
A human captive might work too though.
Edit: Even if they didn't bring any Loroi with them, I imagine the Umiak must have pulled quite a few Loroi apart in gruesome experiments to try to figure out how their telepathy works.

They negociate access to [the object in question] in exchange of [Loroi prisoner/slave]
but maybe they actually found the missing survivor of the bell and are offering them in exchange, thinking of them as weird loroi.

They are prepared to offer me a harem of loroi for my birthday?
Hey, these shell guys aren't so bad!
Heh. I like the Bell survivor idea, actually--poor Alex, if such is the case.

Seren is a planet that the Loroi had a colony on that was conquered by the Umiak in the early stages of the war. Things went...poorly...for the Loroi on the planet. Fireblade grew up on Seren during the occupation.Wintermute wrote:I guess I don't understand where this comment is coming from?
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
I though Fireblade was off planet, but here mother was killed during the occupation , before the Loroi retook the planet ?fredgiblet wrote:Seren is a planet that the Loroi had a colony on that was conquered by the Umiak in the early stages of the war. EDIT: I think you mixed up Fireblade and Beryl, Beryl lost her mom right after she was born.Arioch wrote:Fireblade lost her home and everyone she knew when Seren was occupied (and later purged) by the Umiak
