Teidar amplifiers are not psi suppressors. Fireblade may be getting more comfortable, but she's still on duty.
I haven't decided whether the Loroi have functional psi suppressors; I have toyed with the idea of certain shapes acting as a sort of telepathic "Faraday cage," and with Fireblade having a suppressive sleep pod to limit the effect of her unconscious telepathic emanations... this sort of thing would also be useful for incarceration. But if they did have such things, the effect would be limited and local, and would probably only affect telepathy and not psychokinesis.

Little did they know... Earth has had a functional psi suppressor for centuries:

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
I think that it would be a near certainty that the Loroi have a 'divider' style suppressor as an offshoot from their 'amplifier' project. They may not know the workings of telepathy and telekinesis but they have enough of 'hands on' know how to create custom designed personal amplifiers; someone must have tried to do things 'in reverse' to see what effect they may have.Arioch wrote:Teidar amplifiers are not psi suppressors. Of course the various side effects of the amplifier hint that the Loroi aren't anywhere near as good as the Soians in the practical application of the technology. Hell, they may even be doing things wrong at the first place.

The traditional "Truth or Dare" evening gets awkward quickly with the non-traditional male (Terran) making odd choices.

Your guess is reasonably close, come to think of it.
My guess was way off the mark.

Is it just me or do the Loroi look a bit drunk in the latest WIP?
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Space Rum rations.
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
To put it into context: this is the post:
And alcohol to protect the body against the cold, cold, ice-cold space temperatures coming their way.
I do wonder though if there's actually an inebriant drink in those bottles, or whether those are liquid astronaut food rations...

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
You really don't want to consume alcohol when you're about to be in a state of prolonged cold temperatures.
It causes your blood vessels to widen and the heat you feel from it is actually heat escaping your body, leaving your core temperature worse off.
I expect a futuristic military would have some pretty strict guidelines against that kind of dangerous behavior.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
I would guess they're some kind of Loroi equivalent to an electrolyte drink. The protein shakes or liquid nutrition supplements in MREs and other field rations have too much 'stuff' in them to be translucent like these are; I can't imagine how these would be any different.
Though they could just appear translucent because the page hasn't been shaded yet, in which case this guess is worth as much as the virtual paper it's written on.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
I know that alcohol in your blood won't prevent you from freezing... (and actually quickens the process of colling your body temperature to dangerous levels)
But being inbreviated simply lets you feel the cold less.
Allowing you to fall asleep easier.
