7late7 anyone? 8-)

well some of us don't work in the aerospace industry Trantor, over here, across the Big Lake. I was just giving an example ( and rather bad one as it turned out)

Really, they are a bunch of arrogant idiots. Just all-the-same-networking-breed from their "Ekkkollle-Pollitekkenikkes". Without any competence or common sense. V4/V5 (and some nasty other thingies) was their fault.
well true, but I find that too simplistic an answer, Airbus was doing very good until they were getting problems in production ( or lack of parts IIRC). boeing has been having is own problems with the 777 and 787 too (development and mangerial too)

*Yawn*. They know nothing. I could tell, but i signed several NDAs when i/we was/were one of the contractors @ Airbus. (After the problems surfaced. ;) )

It is not that hard to bring two or more companies to work together. It has less to do with "culture" as the article suggests, but a little more with "common sense". Sadly these days this seems to be a rare thing. Dilbert is reality...
indeed, too much culture not enought sense ( maybe they need deculture from macross :mrgreen: )

@DD: can't wait to see the final product

Well, I can post up the rough internal layout of the modules if you want!

Still working on skinning the thing though.

But it is. They have lost all their skills ´cause todays generation of engineers aren´t engineers anymore. They´re mouse-jostlers, illiterates with computers. It´s not an exclusive french phenomenon, it´s here as well, it´s everywere. But very extreme in france.
NOMAD wrote:Airbus was doing very good until they were getting problems in production ( or lack of parts IIRC).
No, problems surfaced waaay earlier in the planning stages, and all Mr. Foregard and his flunkeys did was keeping that in the closed instead of looking for a solution. And two weeks before the shit hit the fan they sold their shares. Then they quitted. With an ADDITIONAL golden handshake. Rats.
There would have been no losses at all if the head of tech and developement would have been in hamburg from the beginning on and not only after meltdown.
But that was impossible 12 years ago, because the french REALLY thought - and still think - that Airbus Industries is an entirely french company with only minor foreign share. Really, they are this dense.

Well heres the module concept general shape is looking disturbingly starwarsy..
still its rough.

Image

Yellow = Sensors
Dark Blue = Habitat modules
Orange = Cargo
Light Blue = Ship systems, (hanger, drone bay, life support etc.)
Red = Weapons module mounts
Green = Power systems, / Fold Space Drives, Fuel Stores.
Purple = Maneuvering drives

let me know what you think.. still in the process of skinning it.

That´s only because star wars covers nearly all kind of shapes. ;)

I like it. I would just add some passive shields/debris deflectors in each front section, that´d be all.
Good work!

trantor: it's probably because it reminds him of a iconic starwars ship, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tantive_IV
not all THAT similar, but still.

Well the two wedge shaped sensor blocks in front of the large weapons modules in the front were supposed to be field projectors, but I didn't know how we stood on the technology in Ariochs universe.. so if need be, count them as such!

In my defense on the ships shape, I figured it was somewhere between the Scout and the Heavy Cruiser in looks, so designed accordingly.

(Apologies to Arioch if he does not like me using some of his artwork in the spec sheet, will remove if he wants)

Very NICE DevilDalek

its looking very good, kinda want to make me do my own version ( albeit, the Destroyers class that already exist)

@trantor

well i guess the french can be "particular" in their behavior, too bad thought about Mr. Foregard, I would have like to drop kick his ass out of the 380 :twisted:

hi hi

Even if a destroyer class already exists, they're going to be needing new ones pretty soon. :)

OK, finally got something half way decent done with the model.. here, let me know what you think.
the first of the modular designed Cruisers., Weapons modules include, 2 heavy dual barrel Massdrivers, 4 medium Plasma turrets and 8 quad cannon PD weapons (I just love the way quad cannon sounds..)

I really like the bump map you used to make the armor panel.

That is a hell of a lot sexier looking than a converted asteroid or colony ship. :P

EDIT: So with Terran ships being as modular as they are, would that lead to very specialized ships within a fleet. For example, an AMS Cruiser with sophisticated tracking and detection systems and dozens of smaller laser arrays designed to detect and kill incoming missiles and strikecraft? ECM Cruisers using powerful radars and jamming to blind and mute enemy fleets. It could be very valuable to create specialized ship load-outs, especially since with some module swapping you can go from one specialized system to another as needed.

That would be a valid strategy Legio, to have a destroyer or cruiser totally devoted to a formation defense role ...such as the Loroi Rapier with it's multiple medium and point defense hard points or the Loroi Catapult's fighter squadrons. Combined with a modular design that would allow Terran vessel to be refitted at a field base with adequate supplies based upon the situation they encounter might be a valid strategy of adaptation and generalization to counter the small number of vessels the Terran Colonial Authority currently possesses.

Thanks all for the comments! I will work on doing some others.

Well ,the dedicated AMS vessel is definitely well within the realms of possibility, underneath there is mission module that can be swapped out for much more specific and powerful sensors. however, I would say the medium and heavy module mounts would have high speed turrets with long range beam weaponry mounted, as I do no think the standard PD weapons would be able to help cover a fleet.
As well as the weapons, the 12 drones carried in the side sponsons could be sent out to cover an area with anti missile fire, as well as aiding in detection and tracking.

The ECM cruiser would just have them mission module replaced and perhaps some massively powerful high gain antennae slotted in to replace the heavy weapons mounts.

Greyhome ,that was my original plan! to counter our small number of vessels. (I also wanted to make them as hardy as possible, every ship that survive takes back evidence of the enemies weapons on its very hull, this is why the resupply ships would also have some pretty good laboratories and scientists on board.. might as well get started on the research instead of the transit time back to Earth.. also, surviving ships are a good thing)

Of course I could also see Terran ships volunteering for battlefield cleanup, and stripping anything that might look useful to the researchers in the process.

Hmm.. maybe the resupply ship would have limited manufacturing ability to..

I play EvE. It let's you do quite a bit of customization with your ships. It is also very pretty.

DevilDalek wrote: Hmm.. maybe the resupply ship would have limited manufacturing ability to..
basic electronics and small type supplies (e-pads, monitors, interior panelling, exterior shielding)
Ammo for terran ships ( guns and small missiles)
limited food production
thruster fuel production

limited astro mining ability with ROV's ?

and could the moderators remove these space posts ( with thanks when done)
