Hi there!

Read first!
As promised, here is the Cydonia Rising out of character (ooc) thread, as the RP discussion thread is a bit crammed, I think and its necessary to sum up the informations about the game. I will post new background informations here and open a IC thread when the game starts. I hope thats ok. I might also change information here, as this is not finished.

Rules and tips:

We will use the 3rd edition of BESM (Big Eys Small Mouth) ruleset and each character will start with 320 points. If you need the rulebook, just send me a PM.
Edit: you might as well check out this excel sheet for your character Link
It could make things easier for you.

Modus operandi, or how to play:
As soon as the game starts, I will create a Cydonia Rising campaign on http://invisiblecastle.com, just in case we need to roll some dices ;) and I will post the first piece of the Story. I will try to post new parts of the story once or twice a week, you can then post your reactions and actions in the IC thread.

The XP System:

Experience will be given out in three ways!

1 - Post count, every ten full posts is 1 xp.

2 - Milestones in the game - this range from 1-3 xp - and is handed out by Suederwind when you have achived an minor or important plotpoint in the story that is in a way related to your character. This is something Suederwind will reward I expect through PM.

3 - Story award, this is a standard 1-15 xp depending on how the story chapter went, you can never fail an adventure, the higher xp award is given out when you roleplay to the fullest and achieve something for the group whatever the outcome. And is posted at the end of the "chapter" buy Suederwind.

As an older vessel, the Cydonia is no longer the most modern ship of the fleet. But it is fast and has a young. but experienced crew.
(I will post some rough maps of the Cydonia soon. As there are not all the informations I think we need about this class in the Insider, I will have to make up a few things. The Cydonia will have a shuttlebay and at least one shuttle craft.)

Note: This is a streamlined craft designed for efficient planetary landings and takeoffs. It has limited performance and endurance outside atmosphere. Esplanation:

In its center is a small red dwarf star, roughly the size of Barnard's Star. It is orbited by two planets:
(A)a small, grey, mercury like planet and its nearly equal sized moon, nicknamed Huginn and Muninn by the crew of Cydonia.
(B)the purple gas giant, Cydonia is orbiting. It has a strong magnetic field and a thin ring made of ice, nicknamed Odin. Only some small, former asteroids as moons.
(C)an asteroid belt, surrounding the system.
(1)the jumpzone to the Steppes region of space. (~5-6h of flight time, some hidden sensor probes are placed around it)
(2)the jumpzone to the human sphere of influence. (a bit closer to Cydonia, ~2-3h of flight time)

The Humans:

Three months after the events in the Naam System, humanitys mission to search contact seems to have failed. Only the tanker Prabhu and the lonely scout vessel Utsumi returned home, with no sign of the other scouts, the Loroi or the Umiak. While mankinds government debated about what to do next, the colonial fleet prepared a series of three "checkpoints" in systems that anyone would have to cross to get to Esperanza. These checkpoints (Alpha, Beta and Gamma) consists of an array of sensor probes and a patrol vessel. Ready to alarm humanity, slow down the enemy or make contact with whatever might come that way, the ECS-096 Cydonia waits in the Hellespont System (aka "Checkpoint Beta") for relief, after almost 3 months of eventless service there. Orbiting the purple gas giant in that system, Cydonias Captain hopes that the planets strong magnetic field will trick any enemy long enough for them to reach the nearby jump zone back home. Just two days before Cydonias mission comes to an end, two unknown vessels enter the system and immediately start fighting each other. As the fighting ends, both ships have been destroyed and a strange message is received from a small craft: "Terra Lenzos Liron Pennin, Til Tethair Bishires Tilleit...", which was repeated shortly after, in English! Although unsure about the meaning of this message, Captain Blake gives the order to set a course to that lonely craft...


The Loroi:

On their way to finally establish diplomatic contact with "humaniti" and learn more about those strangely familiar looking pink aliens, the "Totor" -class frigate "Argent Fire" takes a course based on the informations that have been obtained from the lone alien survivor of the Naam incident. The small ship and its a bit unusual crew (too many high ranking diplomats and scientists for such a small vessel) stumbled over a lonely Umiak light destroyer, obviously searching in the same direction. Although outgunned, they have been able to destroy the enemy, but the "Argent Fire" suffered heavy damage and only few crewmembers could escape the following destruction of the frigate, as its reactor-control failed. Stuck on a small and damaged shuttle, their only hope is that alien ship with its unknown markings, that slowly approaches them...
The regular crew of the Argent Fire is young and inexpirienced, but the Mizol and Listel cast member are higher ranking than usual. The ship was selected because it has the necessary range and a more impressive ship or a fleet was labeled as scary by that alien diplomat.

Looks good. You may want to create two more threads for the game... [RP]Cydonia Rising (Characters) and a [RP]Cydonia Rising (IC).

The first one - [RP]Cydonia Rising (Characters), is where we can post our characters and not clutter the OOC chat with important data so character only data is easy to find.
The Second one - [RP]Cydonia Rising (IC), is where the actual game In-Character game events and RP take place.

I'd also suggest placing a link to all three threads in the first post on each thread so we can all easily switch between threads and find all three threads with ease...

I'm wondering what kind of armor our guys are using in half of XXII century. Do we still base on 'kevlar', 'high pressed polyethylene' (for soft parts) and titanium\ ceramic inserts for hard ones and everything mounted in camouflaged modular cover? There is no information on web about topic while know how Loroi armors look(more less) so perhaps we should define ours.

Do our guys have armors like in halo(I mean shape like marines or odst) or perhaps something more sci-fi like:

I like stories were as much as possible environment is shown and general clothing\armor aboard is important. But we can always skip this and leave it for everybody imagination.

I´m really not sure about that one. The only picture of a human wearing some form of armor so far is on page 2, panel 3. The guy in the background. I´m not sure if that is a human security guard, but he comes closely to what I had in mind. I´m sure there is no human powerarmor or so. No clue what kind of material humans use for their armor, the Loroi armor is made of "bioplas" (maybe bioplastic?).

Gurps Ultratech states that at T10, a civilization would have access to what amounts to Tau battle suits from WAR 40k and nano suits from Crysis. Also, a T9-10 civilization would have Psionic evolutionary viruses and psi amps ranging from the size of a pyramid, to a throne to a backpack. Go crazy everyone!

Hey Vonwolfe... I think you forgot to attach your character's Game stats... you show he is 320 point but did not include what those stats were. If you need help in putting him together.. just PM me! :)

I'm also looking to do a GURPS version of Sonnidezi "Stormrage"... as Arioch seems to like the GURPS system and I'm curiious to see what I can do with that system in building a character. I just need to find a electronic character sheet version like Fireblade, Beryl and Tempo are done on... then i'll attach it at the bottom of my character post for 'Stormrage'! :)

Yes, I confirmed with Suederwind that it was alright to post my character without the stats and add them in as soon as I have them completed.

I appreciate all your help sunphoenix, but I am still completely clueless about this stuff. That last email you sent me had 20 points left to spend and I couldnt understand the rest of it at all. I am staring at the BESM book as we speak in fear. :D I'll get there slowly but surely.

In polish army=] And we have same problems with ammunition. But there are joint task trainings and such unique things happen to appear sometimes specially when training with Bundeswehr(BW). I have even G36 mag somewhere exchanged for several 5.56 Ak mags ;]

Weapon was poor design, lock quickly clogged with unburned powder and jammed instantly after longer bursts...
I saw on USA market some time ago few pieces of that rifle being sold for horrible money while In my opinion f.e. RFM rifle ejection system is far much more effective..

ps.
We have weapons concept perhaps we could find out what kind of armors/suit even uniforms( I'm not to buying jumpsuit) our guys are wearing in 2160..

Hmm... we seem to be getting A LOT of Loroi characters... did we want to keep it balanced between Loroi and Humans? CJ also wants to play a Loroi.. that would make 4 Loroi...

Good idea! I will fix that back home and will add some new things to the prelude and the ooc thread (a system map and a map of cydonia).
Edit: I posted those links in my signature, as the limit of links in a post appears to be 10, which is a little low for that first OOC post.
