Of course, the loroi have an in here in that the Umiak don't really have a 'standard' navy design anyway. But then, Alex doesn't know what the ship looked like anyway.b) not a standard Umiak Navy design

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
While the Umiak don't have ship classes as we and the Loroi understand them, they still do have, let's say, general design guidelines and specifications. By that I mean that, say, Umiak missile cruisers built by different shipyards on different planets vary in size, loadout and individual design, but they all are built to meet certain specifications and design guidelines and thus look and behave similar and unmistakably Umiak in origin.

They certainly seem to have a lack of angularity that was present in the attacking ship.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Has there been an actual picture of the attacking ship.. the one that destroyed the "Bell" been posted by Arioch?

IIRC, only the sensor screen, page 6, upper right panel.
The Ur-Quan Masters finally gets a continuation of the story! Late backing possible, more info soon.
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
It does not look like an Umiak design but it could belong to one of their "allies". Still I believe it was hiding out from BOTH sides and destroyed the Bellarmine as a simple "no witnesses" policy. My guess it is an observer from an unknown third part of the conflict pitching two empires against each other in order to weaken them. Basically they do the kind of things the Romulans would do in Star Trek except their existence are unknown and they prefer to keep it that way.Krulle wrote:IIRC, only the sensor screen, page 6, upper right panel.
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Again, no evidence whatsoever to support that claim.
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
How exactly does a ship stay hidden in a warzone? Doesn't the impracticability of stealth technology in Outsider not imply that this unknown ship has its own farsensing capabilities?
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Or the crew must have intrinsic telepathy blocking...
Like Mannadi, or Humans.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
It was hidden in the cloud, which would make it obscured conventional radar. As I understand it the loroi in battle when bellarmine entered the system were wiped out.Werra wrote:How exactly does a ship stay hidden in a warzone? Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
The Umiak pulled it off to hide the exact composition and numbers of their fleet in Naam's proplyd material.Werra wrote:How exactly does a ship stay hidden in a warzone? Although SG 51 seemed to know the general direction of the Umiak fleet, since their vanguard scouts were positioned towards them.
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Sure, a ship can hide in Naam. But it has to get there, one jump from the Loroi borders, without being noticed, too. That sounds like a gamble, unless that ship can farsense which system is empty.
Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
Bellarmine did EXACTLY that. The proplyd hid their visual presence and the crews lotai hid them from the farseers. This is why Alex is so important, study him and figure out how to bring down the lotai and the farsense blocking may be possible to deal with IF their blocking methods are similar enough.Werra wrote:Sure, a ship can hide in Naam. Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
My simplest theory for the unknown ship (by simplest I mean using only known entities).
It's historian ship.
Either a separatist fraction of historians or double game of their government. Anyway they decided to help Umiak and provide them AI crew. AI is known to be invisible for Loroi. The Umiak ships was partially crewed, so their mind signatures serve as bait for Loroi. The ship itself was Historian military advisor providing technical support, who of course wasn't interested in witnesses.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
There seems to be a heated discussions, and Alex is pushed into defense...
Although he doesn't look too concernd about it, yet.
So, we're gonna get an Advent calendar?
(24 previews or postings)

I need to say, since the previous page I don't recognize Beryl anymore, it's as if there's a completely different person.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
hi hi
Alex's expression kind of reads as, "Well excuse me, princess." But I'm sure he's saying something a little bit more tactful than that.
Although, tact isn't something the Loroi are terribly familiar with in general, so he might be better off saying things that are at least a little bit tactless.

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
He is probably telling stupid jokes to lift the crew morale:
Alex: Where did the Umiak crew go after the explosion ?
Beryl: I do not know, Captain ...
Alex: Everwhere !

Re: WIP Discussion (Part 1!)
It seems to be happening. TY, Arioch!
Are they playing catch?
(might also just be some exercises in grav-free, to get Alex used to maneuvering in zero-g.
Bery seems to be running, while having fun. (at least I think there's a smile around her eyes)
