Greywind is Dead. Long Live Talon!
My ailing and long-suffering desktop computer, the Dell XPS Gen5, a.k.a. "Greywind", gave up the ghost this morning. It will take about a week to get a replacement, so during that time I will have limited computer access. So don't take it personally if I don't respond to many posts over the next week or so.
I did weekly backups, so hopefully no data was lost.

hi hi
The Emperor is dead, long live the Emperor! (I wonder who would be in line to succeed Greywind.)

Why do they say "long live ...." right after saying "... is dead!" Makes scenes when they say "long live _successor_". Just wondering out loud.
What kind of hardware specs are you thinking of replacing Greywind with?

Wikipedia says;
"The king is dead" is the announcement of a monarch who has just died. "Long live the king!" refers to the heir who immediately succeeds to a throne upon the death of the preceding monarch.
On the note of specs, did the former have good specs? I am not learned when it comes to digtal drawing or design but many of my friends who are say it needs fairly good specs for some programs.

The new system is a Dell/Alienware X51, Core i5-4430, 8GB/1TB, GT645. It's not top of the line (which I can't afford at the moment), but it will get the job done. It will certainly be a huge improvement over the old system.
Greywind is/was a Dell Dimension XPS Gen5 Pentium D Dual-Core 3.20GHz running Windows XP with 2GB of RAM, a two-disk 500 GB RAID, and a Dell 1600x1200 20" LCD display. It was top of the line when I bought it... in 2006.

Re: Greywind is Dead
Before Greywind was Fireblade, before that was Nausicaa and Kei, back when I used to build my own PC's. I had little Nausicaa and Kei stickers (in the place on the generic case where the "brand" name would go) and everything.
Ugh, I have my new monitor (plugged into my Playstation 3), and it's quite nice... the contrast for darker colors is much better than my old monitor, so I can clearly see mistakes in some artwork (notably the shuttle boarding panel) in areas that I thought were too dark to notice.

Huh, I always figured that you, as a software developer, would be into computers enough to build your own. Not interested in the hardware side, not enough time, or what?
