And, both may have come to the conclusion that a gentler approach may be more successful than brute force... thus Fireblade's apparent silent curiosity and Tempo staying in the background, orchestrating the events.

If I recall correctly, we were told that the food they gave Alex was just parts of their standard rations which they thought might be compatible.

I do expect that they would have extensive data on his entire body, inside and out, well before he woke up.
