They have to eat somebody if food runs out.

I think .. in any human man .. such dedication and self-sacrificing spirit would inspire a Fierce desire to protect the lovely and Very Courageous Spiral from harm ~ at all costs!

...at least it would in me.

But my favorite is still likely Fireblade.

Only just in one perspective. Usually the just world perspective encourages people to do good things because good things will happen to them as a result. For the loroi one is encouraged to experience disaster so that others won't have to. It's more like a form of karma, I guess?

They can eat Alex. Just not Spiral.

They wouldn't. For the simple reason that if Loroi food is usually not agreeable to Human biochemistry, it is most likely the other way round as well.

Alex would give them a severe indigestion.

We don't know that. Loroi seem to be more robust than humans in every aspect.

I wonder how much "bad luck" Spiral is having anyway.
She is adept at forcing luck her way, the stunt with the station comes to my mind.
Not many pilots would have survived that.

And it would've meant the loss of the Diral-Seii...

But all in all, since the Seii can channel luck from the brearer to the others, I assume it can channel luck the other way too, as Spiral's stunts have shown... I wonder if Alex would point that out, and whether that would cause the Loroi to shush Alex up for bringing bad luck because you simply don't point out logical flaws in charms.
The Ur-Quan Masters finally gets a continuation of the story! Late backing possible, click link.

So, Spiral is the designated "Bad Luck Magnet" for the rest of the Diral

Well, if I would get 1000$ per page I would produce a whole lot of them

But it's a fun story, so Arioch earns it.

Well looks like Alex isn't to blame for the bad luck then.

For a completely different thing, to me Beryl looks like she's silently fuming at being sort of upstaged by Talon - After all, whether she intends to or not, she is coming on to him with the subtlety of a freight train and made her curiosity quite clear... :)

My take on the ceremony, or at least the retrieval of the knife, was to make your own fate, to make your own luck. I could be off.

Beryl is definitely miffed.

While I agree with the jealous man crazy rage Beryle is having to share the male, another issiue is the giving of information. Depending on how much is common knowledge in universe, the off chance pinky is an enemy spy, this might lead to other discussions of things best left hidden from the enemy. Right now its a right of passage, every culture has one in one shape or form (fro first communion to Graduating high school).

I would also be interested in what they would ask what his right of passage was into adulthood was like.
