Loroi Trade translation request general

Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
unity or community is: lishradil
friend: deizei
friendship: deizes
"brotherhood" (in the abstract sense): sitidat
little brother: dozai reloma
The Loroi recognize a wide array of different states of friendship, but these are concepts mostly internal to telepathic communication; few have Trade words, and few would be applied to outsiders.

Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
Yeah, I literally stumbled onto it after asking this, so I feel like an idiot. I'm trying to find the Trade word for "Lantern" and "Hug". No luck from what I've seen so far.Dan Wyatt wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 8:49 amIn the Insider page, https://well-of-souls.com/outsider/loro ... xicon.htmlQuickdraw101 wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 8:44 amWhere is this lexicon, because I have some translations I want to figure out.

Legend
Myth
Mythology
Myth
Mythology
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
The Loroi Trade word for "legend" is sashrilis. "Legend" and "myth" are Latin- and Greek-derived words for the same thing. If they have different connotations in modern English, I think it may be that "myth" implies that the stories are not true, but the Loroi assume that all of their legends are true, by virtue of their telepathic means of conveyance.
"Mythology" in the sense of a collection of myths or tradition is the same word, sashrilis.
"Mythology" in the sense of the study of myth is ninzad (literally "remembering", a reference to the Ninzadi caste dedicated to the study of Loroi heroic mythology).
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
Hallelujah!
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
Trade doesn't have an equivalent in a religious context.
Literally, hallelujah means "praise yahweh"... so "praise the creator" would be tamadi lastero
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
I suspect the Soia are the culprit to be praised by Loroi.

Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
Phrases involving the "ancestors" would be appropriate, but not being primarily verbal, I tend to think that the Loroi don't use a lot of interjections.
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
What would be the Trade equivalent of "Get the %&@ out!" ?
Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
While I obviously do not know, I have the impression that Loroi in the whole view sex as a precious privilege, since based on the author, no person likely, (aside from those powerful enough nd corrupt), is allowed to choose who they mate with.
Another decides that for them or possibly even by commitee group.
Sex is a 0rivilege, not a right with the Loroi. I really doubt they take it for granted so much that they use it as a substitute swear word.
The few, the proud, the warriors, the ones who are honored by being given the privilege to breed and and continue the Loroi race

Doubt she would do it to a friend.

Re: Loroi Trade translation request general
1. What's the difference between loroi for warrior and the other word tiris. I guess when they say that Alex is not a warrior, they use tiris? But what do those words actually mean in their cultural context? Maybe it is similar to the japanese bushi?
2. Since Trade is pretty static, what does archaic actually mean? Does Alex have a weird backwater accent/dialect since he learned it from a different source with a different script? How would ancient Trade as written on Soia artifacts sound like compared to "modern" Trade?
3. Are there any particulalrly colorful curses any Loroi subculture uses? I mean questioning the fidelity of ones maternal ancestors would not work for the Loroi. How about insulting ones body odour? Do elderberries grow on Maia?
4. Do the Loroi have a word for amber or do they even commonly know of such material?
5. Why would the Soia create the sidebil, a rhino-sized beast of burden and where do they live?
