Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
I wanted to know if there are any genetic abnormalities that exist in Mizol and Teidar as opposed to normal Loroi.
If not, then that would explain why Loroi have little clue where they get their powers, since they would seem miraculous or even divine since there would be no DNA trail to link it to.
Nor could one hope to breed Teidar or Mizol since your chances of birthing one won't go up simply by inbreeding a bunch of Teidar relatives.
Or is there some sort of biological genetic abnormality after all?

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Yes, there's just one Chief of Staff. The position is more like the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs or the White House Chief of Staff. (The US Vice President doesn't really have much of a role in government unless something happens to the President.)
Though not for lack of trying, the Loroi have not been able to identify any specific genes that are directly related to psychokinesis. (If they could, then it would be relatively easy to give it to everyone.)Bamax wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:10 pmI wanted to know if there are any genetic abnormalities that exist in Mizol and Teidar as opposed to normal Loroi.

However, offspring of psychokinetic Loroi are statistically more likely to also possess this ability, and different populations have different percentages of individuals with the ability.

Hi, what is the symbol of the Loroi Union, what's it called, and what's does it mean?
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Most official representatives of the Union (especially those involving the military or the Loroi administration) bear the symbol of the Loroi military:
it's called the minnir, and it's a stylized representation of a mythical creature that symbolizes strength, ferocity and relentlessness. It's more or less like having a dragon as your signet.
The Union Assembly itself (and its official vehicles and officials) has a crest that's a petal-like three-spoked pinwheel. It's supposed to represent the coming together of multiple parties.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Was the Union Assembly crest choosen by the founding members? (IIRC the Barsam and Pipolsid nations).

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Judging by the tentacles, mostly the Pipolsid.

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
It was chosen by the full Assembly, but the Barsam did have a particular hand in designing it.
It's not the same logo as was used by the Interspecies Convention.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Hello! probably this question was asked, but what does loroi have to do with cybernetics? in the wake of watching cyberpunk edgerunners, it became interesting what would be the reaction to the so-called "full borg" cyborg actually devoid of "meat"
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Neural interfaces are commonly used for things like telepathic amplifiers and communication interfaces for cases like with pilots immersed in acceleration fluid, but they have limitations. Loroi medical technology is very effective at regrowing tissue, so mechanical devices are not often used for replacement body parts except in special circumstances or as temporary replacements while awaiting more permanent repair. Full-body replacement cyborgs similar to the Umiak hardtroops are rare among the Loroi. Whatever the use case, the Loroi usually have better options.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Since Loroi are good at organ regeneration medical technology... could they use it to extend a Loroi's life indefinitely?
Or would her mind start to atrophy... and that is one organ you cannot replace?
I presume Loroi could greatly extend a Loroi's life, but after a while it would become such a chore for the Loroi in question that she may want to die anyway.
I am aware that Loroi noses and ears grow longer with old age, so assuming their life continued on past it's natural expiration date then hopefully the nose and ears would not keep growing longer... since that would require periodical surgery to keep the Loroi living a normal life.
If the mind atrophies but the body looks like they are only 30, they would still be kind of useless to Loroi society apart from menial jobs, and adult pride may make one prefer an honorable death rather than an eternity of infancy and capped potential due to atrophy of their once vibrant mind

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
BTW that's something they've got from the human template. Our noses and ears continuously grow, too.Bamax wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 12:09 amI am aware that Loroi noses and ears grow longer with old age, so assuming their life continued on past it's natural expiration date then hopefully the nose and ears would not keep growing longer... since that would require periodical surgery to keep the Loroi living a normal life.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
The terminal event for a Loroi is when (between age 300-400) her immune and regenerative systems crash; her body starts to decompose. It's possible to artificially replace these processes and extend life beyond this point, but what you eventually end up with is a corpse in a jar; it's not pretty.
SpoilerShow
This process is common only for certain elder Listel, and it's not envied by others.
Her nose and ears are the least of her worries at this stage.Bamax wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 12:09 amI am aware that Loroi noses and ears grow longer with old age, so assuming their life continued on past it's natural expiration date then hopefully the nose and ears would not keep growing longer... since that would require periodical surgery to keep the Loroi living a normal life.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
While not ideal... it is more livable for a Loroi than a human since the power of sanzai will allow them to experience things humans need functioning organs for... like the 5 senses via sanzai.Arioch wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 9:04 amThe terminal event for a Loroi is when (between age 300-400) her immune and regenerative systems crash; her body starts to decompose. A Loroi could be literally blind and still see through a dream-like sanzai.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Why do those systems crash? Is it "planned obsolescence", or an error which was carried over from their template (and the Soia didn't bother to fix it)? Maybe there is another reason, like the Loroi being an unfinished product?

Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
It would be analogous to the erosion of telomeres in human chromosomes; after a certain amount of wear, the gene-bearing structures lose the ability to replicate themselves. Whether this is "planned" is a matter for speculation, but most of the Soia-liron animals have similar processes.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Do loroi have the equivalent of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers? If so, what is their method of landing? With drop pods? Stealth craft? In more extreme cases do the loroi still utilize parachutes? Or do they have personal gear that is more efficient than personal parachutes? Assuming the orbital drop loroi does not have telekineses to assist in slowing her descent.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Loroi do not use massive SSTOs to get to orbit... rather they construct their big spaceships in orbit... so they put the spacestation infrastructure in place long before.. doubtless with grav-floor plating otherwise manufacture of ship parts would be harder to do in zero g.Snoofman wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 10:28 amDo loroi have the equivalent of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers? They likely use a mix of shuttles and two stage rocketry to supply orbital space stations... they are well adapted to doing what Elon wants to do.... it is is child's play for them but still useful if you do not want to radiate your planet by using Taimat fuel to reach orbit. So less efficient types are used
What does this indicate?
Loroi shuttles could easily work as drop ships.. as they use air-breathing rocketry for air flight and Taimat drives for space flight.
Parachuting from space could work so long a specially designed Loroi carrier spaceship slowed to match a planet's rotation but stopped it's orbit... essentially hovering in space with belly thrusters
Any objects dropped would then fall straight down to the planet and the air would slow descent.
It has been done by the way too more or less.
Re: Miscellaneous Loroi question-and-answer thread
Drop pods could also be used... but there is no way to recover them unlike shuttles.
It's a one way trip so the Loroi inside them would either succeed at their mission or die trying.
