Frankly, I see something akin to Sword of the Stars in terms of modularity being a good way to go.
Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
eve is awesome, and nice ship DD, but this is still just the modern day 'modular', take ship with swap out parts...sure it works, but i still say total modularity is better for space.

Visual customization? cause last time i played, only the gun were changing, and minor prop here and there.

Check out T3 cruisers, every captain's wet dream.

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
Tech 3 cruisers are hardly the penultimate ship. They're versatile, granted but there are other ships (most of which are tech 2) that perform specific roles in far superior fashion than a t3 cruiser could.
They're good, but they're over rated a lot as well.

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
well I don't think you missed much
new explorer ships
new enemies and campaigns
A captain cabin mode their getting close to launching ( which is not interesting at all since you can see your characters and walk about your ships cabin)
and later on eVe is implementing a space station mode where you can interact with other players avatar.
so you didn't miss anything

Ok,I have done some plan views of the Modular Cruiser Prototype, I hope to be soon working on the resupply ship.
Any hints or ideas would be gratefully received!
I did have the idea for the deep space dock, what if it was built into the actual ships and they just had securing lugs built into their main frame?

Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
Thanks Bunnyboy!
Nomad, your going to have to be a bit more clear on that one!
Trantor, would love to see it on Hellas Landing, but that's down to Arioch, and since that is the flashbacks and this model of cruiser is designed to take advantage of retro engineered alien tech, its unlikely there would be one there.. unless there's a dock where they are assembling one.
Speaking of docks, I have been looking at the resupply / refit ship. as to the folding dock it is supposed to mount, what if the 'dock' was built into the cruisers and other ships it services? securing lugs built into the main frame of the vessel that the supply ship can lock waldos onto?

Thought this was a pretty cool cargo ship design. I suspect the off-center container placement could cause center-of-gravity issues, but that doesn't detract from the cool.

Arioch, do you read microbricks too?
OUTSIDER UPDATE => HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED?
Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
argh, french-english brain not working, what i meant to say is that your model is so well done, it deserves to be either in Ariochs homeworld ships yards or in the Outsider insider article on terrain ships class ( or part of the fan art:).DevilDalek wrote: Nomad, your going to have to be a bit more clear on that one!
have you thought up a class name ?

I´m pretty sure he welcomes fine pieces of fanart.DevilDalek wrote:Trantor, would love to see it on Hellas Landing, but that's down to Arioch...
So: Rotate, scale and paste it!

sapere aude.
Re: Concept Fanart of Future Terran Ship Designs
That´s not an issue if you have multiple engines or cardanic mount on them.Arioch wrote:Thought this was a pretty cool cargo ship design. I suspect the off-center container placement could cause center-of-gravity issues
There´s more a problem with statics - even at low acceleration there must be some kind of supportstructure "behind" the containers, otherwise you´ll have to make them too rigid, eating up payload.

if they actually put cargo on the other side, the problem would be solved?Arioch wrote:Thought this was a pretty cool cargo ship design. I suspect the off-center container placement could cause center-of-gravity issues, but that doesn't detract from the cool.
